You'll discover an enticing world of culture, local characters and delicious cuisine. Whether you are trekking through the Andes or taking your time in the city of the Incas, you'll explore Cusco and it won't cost the earth

Day 1 Lima – Cusco / City tour and Saqsayhuaman ruins
Early morning transfer from the hotel to the airport for the 50-minute flight to Cusco. Transfer from airport to hotel. After a morning free to acclimatize, you will be picked-up for a tour of the city. In the afternoon we will make a city tour. The tour begins with a visit to the city’s cathedral, which was erected on the site of one of the most important temples of the Inca period, dedicated to the creator god Wiracocha. Construction began in 1559 and was completed in 1654. The interior houses a collection of paintings from the Cusco School of religious art. From the cathedral we will head to the Qoricancha, the Inca Temple of the Sun, to see its fine stonework and learn about its history as the most important shrine in the Inca Empire. From here we will leave the city and venture into the surrounding hills. Saqsayhuaman was the ancient House of the Sun, and today we can observe beautiful stone constructions erected by the Incas on a massive scale. Our tour will continue with guided visits to the temple of Qenqo, the red fortress of Pukapukara and the Inca baths at Tambomachay. In the evening you will have the opportunity to enjoy Cusco’s fine Novo Andino cuisine – based on traditional local ingredients and international gourmet techniques – and a show featuring Andean music or dance.

Day 2 Sacred Valley of the Incas
Today will be spent in the Urubamba Valley - also known as the Sacred Valley of the Incas. We will visit the market of Pisaq, where a colorful handcrafts market of Andean jewelry, textiles, pottery and other items shares space on the main square with a traditional produce market. This market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. We will then continue our trip by visiting the Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo, which conserves intact the urban plan as it was laid out by the Incas. This site was once inhabited by members of the Inca nobility, and we will visit its agricultural terraces, temples and residential areas. We will spend the night in a valley hotel where typical colonial architecture and the quiet village atmosphere provide the perfect backdrop for all the comforts of the modern world.
Meals: B.L.

Day 3 Inca trail to Machu Picchu
In the early morning we will drive from our valley hotel to the trail head to begin hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, which passes high mountains down to cloud forest, passing through a number of diverse ecological zones filled with an enormous variety of plants and birdlife. The route is also studded with archaeological sites en route to Machu Picchu. On the first day we follow the Urubamba River, accompanied by fine views of Mount Veronica (5,850 m). After lunch we will visit the ruins of the Inca settlement of Llactapata, before continuing through the Huayllabamba Valley to camp near the village of the same name.

Social & Environmental responsibility
Andean Skyline is committed to travelling in a way that is respectful of local people, their culture, local economies and the environment. With your participation we can help conserve the area we visit and bring positive benefits to our host communities:

  • The natural environment is also very important. If in the bush we need to make our human waste, be sure is buried away from waterways. Burying or carrying out used toilet paper is a must. Tampons and sanitary pads must also be taken out of the area and disposed of appropriately. Minimize use of soap or shampoos in rivers and lakes - your local guide will let you know when using soap is unsuitable.
  • When trekking, many travellers take an extra plastic bag to pick up any rubbish that they see to improve the area and for their own rubbish. Rubbish may have to be carried until a suitable disposal opportunity in the next town.
  • Please try and minimize the waste of plastic water bottles. Consider packing a water filter, water purification tablets or iodine to purify drinking water. At some of our hotels there are large water 'bubbler' dispensers where you can refill your bottle with purified water for free or for a small fee.
